Little England
Free quote · No deposit · No obligation
Nuwara Eliya is Sri Lanka's highest town at 1,900 metres, in the heart of the tea country. It is known as "Little England" for its Victorian bungalows, cool climate and manicured gardens - the daytime highs sit around 20-22 C and nights fall to 8-12 C. It is a tea-tour base, a Horton Plains gateway, and the northern end of the world-famous hill-country train line.
Why go to Nuwara Eliya
Nuwara Eliya is a genuinely different Sri Lanka - cool air, colonial architecture, endless tea plantations and a town centre that feels like the Cotswolds. For travellers on a two-week trip it is the most surprising stop, and for hill-country hiking (Horton Plains, Adam's Peak in season) it is the base.

Two nights. One night is enough for the town but misses either Horton Plains or a tea factory day. A colonial tea-estate bungalow (Ceylon Tea Trails, Warwick Gardens or similar) is the most romantic accommodation category in Sri Lanka.

Nuwara Eliya or Ella - which is better?
Nuwara Eliya is higher, cooler and more colonial; Ella is warmer, smaller and better for hiking day-trips. Most well-planned itineraries include both, spending a night in each; if you must choose, Ella suits younger travellers, Nuwara Eliya suits those who like colonial atmosphere and hill-station towns.
