The Best Sri Lanka Itinerary for UK Travellers (10-14 Days)
A 10 to 14-day route that suits the length of a proper British holiday and the December-March dry season, linked by your own private driver.
Most UK travellers come for 10 to 14 days, which is enough to link the Cultural Triangle, Kandy, the tea-country hills, a wildlife safari and the south coast beaches without rushing. In the December-to-March window this classic clockwise loop stays on the dry side of the island the whole way. A private driver connects every stage so your holiday is spent at the sights, not on logistics.
Why 10-14 days fits a UK trip
It is a long way to come, so a long weekend does not do it justice - but two weeks is generous. Ten days covers the essentials comfortably; twelve to fourteen adds a second beach, a slower pace, or an extra safari. Because the flight is direct and lands in the morning, you get close to a full first day.
Days 1-4: arrival and the Cultural Triangle
Land in Colombo, meet your driver and head north to Sigiriya. Climb the rock fortress at dawn, explore the ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa and the Dambulla cave temples. This is the historic heart of the island and a strong, cool-of-the-morning start.
Days 5-8: Kandy and the tea country
Drive to Kandy for the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, then climb into the hills. Ride the famous train through the tea estates to Ella, walk to Little Adam's Peak and visit a working tea factory around Nuwara Eliya. The cool highland air is a welcome change mid-trip.
Days 9-14: safari and the south coast
Drop to a national park - Yala or Udawalawe - for a morning safari, then reach the south coast. Base around Galle, Mirissa or Tangalle for beaches, the historic Galle Fort and, in season, whale watching. These final days are your reward before the flight home.
Make it yours
This is a template, not a rulebook. Honeymooners slow it down and add a boutique stay; families swap a temple day for an elephant transit corridor; surfers push south. Tell us your interests and we will shape it. Start from our tour packages or a custom route, and see the Sri Lanka from the UK page.

Frequently asked questions
Is 10 days enough for Sri Lanka?
Yes - 10 days comfortably links the Cultural Triangle, Kandy, the tea country and a beach. Twelve to fourteen days adds a safari, a second beach or simply a slower pace.
Which direction should the route go?
In the December-March season a clockwise loop from Colombo keeps you on the dry south and west side throughout. We reverse or reshape it for other months.
Can we do this with children?
Easily. A private driver makes family travel simple - car seats, flexible stops and shorter driving days - and we swap in wildlife and beach time for younger travellers.
